Class & Studio Work | Penn State Landscape Contracting

  As you progress through the Landscape Contracting degree at Penn State, you begin to sink your teeth into the heart of the program. At this point you're finally past the boring, mundane, and repetitive filler classes that you were forced to take the two years prior.

  Now, you're in classes that deal with landscape construction, plant maintenance, small business management, and a myriad of other core instructional courses-(finally feeling that you're getting your money's worth.) One of the first core classes I completed at Penn State was Horticulture 269 | Residential Landscape Planning

  This class by far has been my favorite. Although I admit, at the beginning I had my reservations, it evolved into something I was quite pleased with in the end. Hort 120 | Computer Applications in Landscape Contracting

This is a portfolio of my work in HORTICULTURE 120. It categorizes all of the major assignments that were completed in this class.

This course utilized programs such as AutoCAD, Adobe Suite(Photoshop CS3), ProLandscape, and Google SketchUp. Another requirement for this class was the formation of a wiki that will continue to be updated as time progresses.

Hort 269 | Residential Landscape Planning

This is work from my HORTICULTURE 269 "Residential Landscape Planning" design class. This page will document the design process of the 'Kwasnica' project house. The Kwasnica project house was located just ouside of University Park. Here students were to take initial measurements to locate utilities, property boundaries, walks, and major elevation changes. Students were required to revisit the site if adequate information was not taken during the initial visit.

Hort 315 | Environmental Effects on Horticulture Crops

Horticulture 315 "Environmental Effects on Horticulture Crops" is a research course required for my minor in Horticulture. Our experiment was to analyze the effects of certain growth media on Aftrican Violet leaf petiole cuttings. 

The cuttings were then placed into a climate controlled growth chamber. The chamber was key due to the cold winter months of Pennsylvania.

Hort 408 | Landscape Plant Establishment and Maint.

This page displays some of the research work I have documented in my Horticulture 408 "Landscape Plant Establishment and Maintenance" class. There is research dealing with pre-emergent herbicides for spring weed seed germination, as well as a landscape evaluation project.

This class was predominantly lecture, broken up with two major projects dealing with real life scenarios faced by the landscape industry and its contractors.

Hort 464 | Landscape Construction I

Horticulture 464 "Landscape Construction I" documents the progress of the first construction course required for the Landscape Contracting major. This class tasked us with the execution of a landscape plan and installation here on the University Park campus.

Along with the junior project on campus, this class aslo dealt with site elevation and interpolation, proper layout of construction detail plans, site grading, and contour lines.
