Academics

I chose the major of Landscape Contracting as a result of years of experience in the green industry and a true love of the type of work required. This page is devoted to presenting the type of work I have completed thus far in my educational quest to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Science--Landscape Contracting from Penn State. The first two years of study consisted primarily of general education credits with a few core horticulture and soil science classes.

Classwork

The landscape contracting program at Penn State covers a broad spectrum of topics and courses that prepare the individual to be significantly ahead of the curve at the time of employment. In this digital age, curriculums are geared towards the use of computerized aid in achieving an outcome. The landscape industry is no different. Computers are not just for business majors anymore. Computer aided design is used throughout the green industry and goes hand-in-hand with a suite of software that allows a company to present a digital medium to a client.

This software allows you to digitally organize your design thoughts and present them to the client as if the project had already happened. By taking a CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawing you can then easily add beds, plant material, water features, and a myriad other possibilities. In turn, that two-dimensional drawing is then sent to another program where texture, color, and depth are added-- bringing about a virtual image for a client to better understand the design plan.

The classwork page(s) contains detailed descriptions and examples of the work I have completed at Penn State.
